LEARNING & THE ARTS!
It is no secret that education plays a critical role in the development of a child. How that education is experienced and processed can have a monumental effect on a child’s cognitive growth and their ability to deal with the rapid changes of today’s modern world. Styles of teaching and learning vary widely throughout the US and are under constant review and speculation. However, there is one stream of teaching and learning that has maintained exceptional levels of effectiveness and results, regardless of its lack of implementation, and that is learning through the Arts.

COGNITIVE LEARNING
Exposure to the arts is statistically proven to have positive effects on a child’s ability to think critically and imagine possibilities. Drama practices, explorations and games provide exceptional frameworks for learning whether on their own, or while implemented into standard curriculums such as science and math. Research has consistently proven that use of the arts across the school day allows for higher levels of transfer of learning between subjects and recognition of interdisciplinary themes. |
SOCIAL LEARNING
Students of theatre have a unique opportunity to explore first hand what makes us who we are, and how our behaviors, words and actions define our personality. Benefits from participation in theatre can include increased self-confidence, awareness of character in self and others, and growth in ability to recognize subjectivity and the multiple perspectives that may exist within a single story. |
